USPSA US Open Nationals/Las Vegas
The Open/Limited-10 US Nationals is over. The Limited/Production match will be starting tomorrow.
Today, again after Sunday, it was very windy. The fine dust was blowing everwhere on the range. At one
moment one range tent was nearly blown away. I'd unfortunately shot another No-Shoot and a miss, the NS
was avoidable, I was a little to high on gas the first stage today. I didn't
recognize the Miss on the second stage while shooting, I thought I had it pretty clear. It was a double swinger, which was very tough to engage, far out,
you could only do it with one shot at a time. Facing the target during scoring
the shot wasn't on, it must went off very close.
The last stage, the famous dark house ran fantastic for me. I only had one C there, and a pretty low time. Very fun to shoot.
Tonight there's going to be price giving. Final results are just coming in (I made a comfortable 12th place overall...)

There were five long courses today, with again some far out targets and partially covered
ones. Again, precision was the key. I shot my first two Ds today, but no minor
mistakes. Lost here and
there a second, but that was it.
Stage 3 had an activating window with a handle below it, after engaging it opened the window
with 4 targets behind it, and, it also activated a bridge, on which you had to run
afterwards.
From the bridge there were 3 more steel and a clamshell target, which was actived by the
bridge,
covering the target immediately with a NS, leaving only the headbox visible. Another headbox only target
beside it, so one more time aiming needed.
Today from the morning on it was very hot, no breezes going on.
Tomorrow at noon we got our last 3 big stages, including stage 8, were you got to enter a
pretty low-light room, shooting
to the outside. (posted 11.10.10)
Today it was really hot out on the range. The sun burned mercyless, with some breezes going on, bringing
the fine dust up. You got to cover your gun at all times to avoid functioning
problems.
I had a NS today, it was avoidable, but after it your're always smarter...
Points were very good, no D so far, times also ok. Watched the ladies squad, which are right behind
us. If you're not seeing them, you can hear 'em..;-) just kidding.
The men's super squad are 3 squads behind us, I had the occasion to watch some of them inbetween stages
as well. Well, you always wondering when you hear their times, were they had their coffee
underway...kidding again. They're doing the double tabs that causes you lots of
headaches...
Tomorrow the real big courses are underway, today we had 90 rounds, tomorrow 130. Stay
tuned.. (posted 10.10.10)
Our first day is over. Went pretty good for me, just a couple of c's with some (for me ;-) fast
times. We had only
speed shoots and two mediums today, the longer stages for us will start tomorrow. Absolutely clear skies
since yesterday, it's real fun to shoot the courses. In the sun it's starting to get real hot around
noon,
tomorrow we start a 1pm, so I think lots of sun blocker might be a good idea.
Match is well organized, they even had one scoreboard for each competitor (see
pic) on one stage...(posted 09.10.10)
Have been to the range today, looked at all stages. Pretty hot out there in the
sun, stages
looking forward,
not very complicated, but you need to aim sharply at most of the targets. Some far out mini
poppers, props are nicely done,
one stage is a completely closed room where you got to engage the targets outside with very little daylight inside the
room.
Registration was quick, met some known faces. Tomorrow we're starting at 8am, so
I got to get up early. (posted 08.10.10)
Just arrived without problems yesterday evening, except a 2 hour wait at customs in Houston.
I'd miss my connection flight to Vegas, but had to wait only 60 min. for the next plane. In Las Vagas temperatures are easily in the
low/mid 80ies (24-28°C).
This morning I visited the Vegas Strip with all the big hotels, some well known out of the media
(movies, series..). Incredible sizes, didn't expect them that big.
Very large malls are in these hotels (Caesars' Palace, The Venetian...) with uncountable
shops, eating booths, slot and
gamble machines are everywhere and well crowded.
After lunch, I'd zero both guns at American Shooters, a very good stocked gun shop just round the corner from the strip
and The Orleans, which is the headquarter hotel for the Nationals. Tomorrow afternoon's gonna be registration at The Orleans, after breakfast I plan
to drive out to the range to have a look at the stages...more tomorrow (posted 07.10.10)
